The property tax defaulters can breathe easy as MCD has taken a decision to extend the amnesty scheme till the 31st March 2012. According to the amnesty scheme property tax defaulters can clear their outstanding amount without paying any penalty or interest charges both under the old and new systems of evaluation. The reason behind extending scheme is that so far very few people have come forward, particularly under the unit area method, to clear their outstanding amounts.
The Civic body has announced the scheme twice in the same financial year but yet only 700 applications has been received for settlement.
